Dream Box presented Subject Matters IV at Double 6 Studio in Greenpoint on the weekend of November 19–20, 2016.

The exhibition Subject Matters IV was the final edition of a series that first took place in November of 2015, completing the cycle of four pop-up shows featuring photographers of different nationalities and backgrounds, all of whose works communicate different perspectives, styles, techniques, aesthetics and themes. Subject Matters IV presented the works of six photographers: Belinda Téllez, Bruno Feder, Charlie Kitchen, Demian Jacob, Fran Parente and José Cabaço.

Presented by Dream Box, curated by Juliana Leandra and art directed by Paulo Sabatini, the pop-up exhibition took place in Greenpoint’s Double 6 Studio over the weekend of November 19–20, with an opening reception on Saturday, November 19, from 5–9pm.

Subject Matters IV photographers work in different fields of photography; therefore, they were novel to each other. Among the various motifs embedded in all bodies of work submitted to the exhibition, there is a common element that exists in each one of them: subject matter.

Each photographer was asked to answer the question “Why Subject Matters?” with a verbal and a visual answer, which resulted in a series of photographs and a paragraph explaining the importance that each artist gives to their subject matter.

A zine specially designed to document the artists’ photographs and answers was distributed during the weekend of the exhibition.
