Born in Mozambique and growing up in Portugal, José graduated from IADE and worked as a product designer in the glass, furniture and car industries. He later moved into the advertising business, where he worked at a variety of agencies as an art director and creative director. Under his direction, Y&R and Nova Publicidade were named Advertising Agencies of the Year in Portugal for 4 consecutive years. Meanwhile, he co-founded a mountain biking magazine, BIKE, the Art Director's Club of Portugal and was a partner of Sneakers Delight. His sketchbooks, which he’s kept religiously since he was 10, have been published several times. In 2001, he co-founded his own agency, Home. The next year, the agency merged with Grey. In 2002, he was invited by the Cannes Festival to be in the film jury, with Dan Wieden as President. There, he was invited by Dan to be the Creative Director for Nike Europe at the Wieden + Kennedy office in Amsterdam. He then moved to the flagship office in Portland, Oregon. As CD, he oversaw Nike Latin America and Electronic Arts and worked on a variety of Nike projects for the U.S., China and Global. In 2008, he left Wieden + Kennedy for a unique opportunity to partner with Esther Lee as CCO North America at Euro / NY. He’s currently working at Adidas.
